The Foreigner
Act I, Scene 1

Froggy
The ever happy, Froggy arrives
at Meek’s Fishing Lodge
Charlie
Recently learning of his girlfriend’s
many other "friends", Charlie arrives-none too happy
Betty
Proprieter, Betty Meeks
The Plan
Froggy tells Charlie to pretend
he doesn't speak English.
This way, he'll be left alone
Explaining to Betty
Telling Betty that Charlie is a
Foreigner, & doesn't speak English
Assure Charlie
Assuring Charlie that no one
will bother him during his stay
Rev. David
Catherine’s fiancee', Rev. David
shows up after being gone for days
Catherine
Catherine questions David’s whereabouts
They argue
Catherine not happy with David’s
explanation of where he’s been
Notice Charlie
They notice Charlie sitting quietly &
question Betty as to who he is
Betty explains
Explaining Charlie’s woes, that he is a
good friend of Froggy, & to leave him alone
Skeptic of Charlie
They are not too sure about
her explanation, nor his not understanding
Betty shows off
Betty shows them she has connected
with Charlie & can "talk" to him
Owen arrives
Owen, the town’s Building Inspector
comes to hassle Betty again, about
the lodge’s crumbling foundation
Threatens the Rev
Reminding David that they have
to get to work on their "plan"
Harassing Charlie
Owen makes fun of Charlie, having
learned he can't understand anything they say
Ellard arrives
Ellard, Catherine’s brother
Ellard is rather "slow"
Set up Ellard
David lies about what he told Ellard
to bring to Catherine. David is always
doing something to make Ellard look stupid
