THE PHOENIX WORKSHOP was created by TSP to provide the experience of an actual production for fledgling directors as well as featuring works by local playwrights. The summer of 2004 saw the first production by the Phoenix Workshop, Fork in the Road. It is TSP's sincere hope that this project will continue.

Synopsis

The play tells the story of a young vet student, Hank, who travels from his home in rural Iowa towards Chicago's Wrigley Field, to fulfill his mother's last wish. He stops at a small diner off the interstate in central Illinois where the story takes off. At the Fork in the Road Diner, Hank meets two helpful waitresses, the not so helpful owner of the diner and a patron who lends more than a menu recommendation. With the aid of some "spiritual" assistance, Hank and the other regulars of the diner learn that. as Yogi Berra once said, when you come to a fork in the road, you take it...

Judith Fergen's script has evolved since it was featured as a Play in Progress, hosted by Robert Riner at McHenry County College in the winter of 2000. In the summer of 2004, TownSquare Players and THE PHOENIX WORKSHOP hosted the world premiere production of this work and debuting the artistic direction of Timothy R. Curtis.
