Townsquare Players, Inc. (TSP) is the oldest active Community Theater group in McHenry County and the oldest resident Community Theatre company operating out of the Woodstock Opera House. Established in 1968 by Bob & Gloria Carr, Karen Wells, Anne Marie Cina, Lou & Mary Harting and Myron & Sharon Wilson; it was incorporated as a not-for-profit corporation in 1973.

Since its inception, TSP and its members, have contributed countless hours and talent, as well as monetarily, to improve and upgrade the Opera House.

The purpose of TownSquare Players, Inc is to promote, sponsor, support, produce, instruct and engage in "all the performing arts as well as the various forms of graphic arts" and any other related activities.

It is also to engage in the production, direction and performance of educational, cultural and entertaining programs. By providing theatre craft workshops; sponsoring, producing and engaging in publicity events which may include non-member participants and any other performing arts and graphic arts related activities.

TSP will continue to strive for excellence and professionalism in all of our productions and undertakings to provide the best entertainment that the community has to offer.

TSP's season consists of one musical and one straight show at the Woodstock Opera House. Our season begins in November and ends in March alternating between a straight show and musical.

Our style is innovative in that we create a blend of the "tried and true" along with lesser-known productions. It is that style which has allowed us to consistently prosper, grow and learn as a company.

In 2004 we started the Phoenix Workshop, which produced the original work, 'A Fork in the Road' by a local playwrite. It is the intention of this group/workshop to be used as a platform for new directors, plays and playwrites.

Our policy is that no part is pre-cast. Auditions are held for every role. Interviews are held for each major staff position. If you would like to send a resume for a staff position, email us at the link provided in " Contact Us".

COME, BE A PART OF THE MAGIC!

As a Community Theatre company, our goal is to encourage the involvement of as many people as possible. Actors as well as workers. A considerable amount of time, effort, and talent(s) go into each production. Each production requires the efforts of approximately 200 people and over 8,000 hours on weekends and evenings, culminating in the final presentation. TSP is always encouraging the involvement of new (and old) members to achieve our goal.

If you are interested in how you can be a part of the magic that is theatre, there are many ways to be involved.

Visit the "Call Board" to find out about current Auditions and Production Positions that are available.

Also visit "Inside TSP" to learn more about different areas that you are welcome to participate in. There is always something to do if you'd like to be a part of what we refer to as "our family". Community Theatre is a commitment and labor of love. There is a comradery among members that has to be experienced, to be appreciated.

Training and experience are not a necessity. There are many ways for you to become involved. If you can swing a hammer, hold a paintbrush, thread a needle, or use your imagination, you've got a job! It's that easy. If you are willing to learn, we'll teach you. There are many aspects of theatre that go unseen from "the house". What is seen there, is the end product, the culmination of enormous amounts of talent, time, work - and lest we not forget FUN! We have a saying in theatre;

"We ain't' in it for the money." We do it because we love it.

It is a contagious enviornment that gets in your blood. Another saying that is all too true is;

"There's no such thing as a small part."

Each and every person involved with every production is a vital link. There wouldn't be a final product without all of these links.

Many positions are available to "shadow" ie: learn that job. See the "Job Descriptions" section for a listing of job descriptions. If you have a particular talent, free time, are looking for something new and fun to do, please, let us know. No one is turned down who wants to be involved.

If you have specific questions that you don't find addressed on these pages, please contact us.

We share a storage facility with WMTC, which we use for rehearsal space, storage and building of sets. This is yet another area that needs to be constantly organized and cleaned out. There are an unlimited number of ways which you can be involved. If you are interested, please e-mail us with your interests, or even if you are just curious. We'd love to welcome you into the fold.
