Notes from the 2009 Annual Meeting

The TSP Annual Meeting was held Wednesday, June 24 at the American Community Bank & Trust building in Woodstock. In attendance were: President Paul Lockwood, Vice President Regina Belt, Treasurer Lynne Kreisman, Secretary Gina Micci, Members At Large; Deb Spitzbart, Dan Kreisman and Char Ulanowski. Also in attendance were Karen Wells, Geoff King, Howie Alton, Yvonne Alton, Lou Czarny, Janie Czarny, Rae Pfundt, Tom Hermanson, Diane Lockwood and Allison Reagan.

Paul reported that the 2008-2009 Season was critically well accepted with an average nightly attendance of 163. "Harvey" had a total of 1466 while "Musical of Musicals, The Musical!" had a total of 1464 attendees.

Regina Belt will direct "Leading Ladies" with auditions in early September. Auditions for "1776" will be in December.

TSP received $2490.00 from the Illinois Arts Council, however due to huge budget cuts, nothing will be available for the upcoming year.

TSPrestige received 33 donations for a total of $1867.00.

Howie Alton was presented with a Lifetime Membership for his continued support, countless hours of dedication and work.

Tom Hermanson was presented with a plaque for his father Bob Hermanson, who passed away earlier this year. Bob was tireless in his dedication to TSP. He was on the SARA Committee and was an integral part of the many improvements made at SARA. His involvement with TSP found him runing the elevator or ushering, working backstage as a crew member or building the sets. He will be missed by all those who knew him.

July 18th will be the cleanup of SARA beginning at 8:30 A.M.

Alison Regan was elected at Treasurer. Deb Spitztbart's term was up and Lynne Kreisman was elected to fill the vacancy.

TSP IS 40 YEARS YOUNG in 2008

TSP is celebrating its 40th anniversary and needs all members to rejoin----give us your talents, support and insight as we begin another new season at the Opera House. Remember that $15 will provide you a free ticket to the November play HARVEY and the March musical, MUSICAL OF MUSICALS: THE MUSICAL

Woodstock Mayor Brian Sager presented the TownSquare Players, Inc. board with a proclamation commemorating the 40th anniversary of TSP at the Nov. 4, 2008 City Council meeting. The proclamation, which mentions that TSP has produced 76 shows (including our November 2008 production of "Harvey"), was accepted by current TSP president Paul Lockwood, immediate past president Lou Czarny, the rest of the current board (Vice President Regina Belt, Secretary Gina Micci, Treasurer Lynne Kreisman, and directors-at-large Dan Kreisman, Deb Spitzbart, and Char Ulanowski), Webmistress Rae Pfundt, and three of the founding members of TSP -- Karen Wells, and Bob & Gloria Carr. Paul made a brief statement of appreciation after the proclamation. The proclamation plaque will be posted at the Opera House or Stage Left Café in a visible location.

An outstanding performance

To the editor:
Congratulations to TownSquare Players, not only for their 40th anniversary but for one of the best shows they have ever produced.

First, "The Musical of Musicals" is new material -- new to the Woodstock Opera House stage, that is. But beyond that, it is terrific material, clever, witty and funny.

Second, the performers were outstanding. It is almost hard to believe that we have talent of this caliber in this area. They have great voices and stage presence; one would expect to see their equals on Broadway.

And third, Geoffrey King, narrator/piano, was pure dynamite.

But wait, there's more. This was a production that required many hands to create such excellence, so to every single person, not only on stage but behind the scenes as well, congratulations and thanks for such an exhilarating theater experience.

Sherry Anderson, Woodstock

TownSquare Players Community Involvement

Each year, TSP donates tickets to benefit the Children’s Miracle Network (CMN) fundraiser. This is done in cooperation with Wall-Mart, one of the leading sponsors of CMN. Children's Miracle Network is a sponsored community service campaign including media initiatives, fundraising and special events which benefit the 170-member Children's Hospitals across the United States and Canada.

In it’s efforts to continually promote and sponsor all forms of the Performing Arts, TSP has made monetary contributions to several organizations over the years.

TSP has sponsored both the McHenry County Talent Fair and Woodstock Summer Theatre for several years.

TSP also donated to the Theatre Boosters Thespian Scholarship The scholarship is awarded to a person involved on the Technical staff in the Woodstock High School Theatre Program. The purpose is to facilitate the recipient in attending college and pursue the technical aspect of theatre. The 2003 recipient was Billy Seger.

The 2002 recipient of the Al Smith Memorial Scholarship was David Reis. The scholarship fund was set up for young people to pursue performing arts.

As part of the 2002 Woodstock Sesquincentennial Celebration, TSP donated to the children’s events that were hosted during the festivities. TSP purchased a Silver Sponsorship as well as a brick, with TSP’s logo, for the yet to be constructed, Sesquincentennial Park.

Local treasures
To the editor:

Sometimes it is good to be reminded of something many of us already know - TownSquare Players and the Woodstock Musical Theatre Company are outstanding local treasures.

I was able to see the last two productions at the Woodstock Opera House, "Foreigner," - presented by the TownSquare Players; and "Moon Over Buffalo," presented by the Woodstock Musical Theatre Company. Both were very well done and highly entertaining.

The two production companies are a credit to their elegant venue, the Opera House.

It was gratifying to hear the comment of a woman from Batavia seated near me, "I come to the plays in Woodstock because it is easier than going to Chicago."
