TOp of Page2008-2009 Season AnnouncedHarvey - November 7-23, 2008 When Elwood P. Dowd starts to introduce his imaginary friend, Harvey, a six-and-a-half-foot rabbit, to guests at a society party, his sister, Veta, has seen as much of his eccentric behavior as she can tolerate. She decides to have him committed to a sanitarium to spare her daughter, Myrtle Mae, and their family from future embarrassment. Problems arise, however, when Veta herself is mistakenly assumed to be on the verge of lunacy when she explains to doctors that years of living with Elwood's hallucination have caused her to see Harvey also! The doctors commit Veta instead of Elwood, but when the truth comes out, the search is on for Elwood and his invisible companion. When he shows up at the sanitarium looking for his lost friend Harvey, it seems that the mild-mannered Elwood's delusion has had a strange influence on more than one of the doctors. Only at the end does Veta realize that maybe Harvey isn't so bad after all.The Musical of Musicals - (The Musical!) - March 6 - 22, 2009 The Musical of Musicals (The Musical!) is a musical about musicals! In this hilarious satire of musical theatre, one story becomes five delightful musicals, each written in the distinctive style of a different master of the form, from Rodgers and Hammerstein to Stephen Sondheim. The basic plot: June is an ingenue who can't pay the rent and is threatened by her evil landlord. Will the handsome leading man come to the rescue? The variations are: a Rodgers & Hammerstein version, set in Kansas in August, complete with a dream ballet; a Sondheim version, featuring the landlord as a tortured artistic genius who slashes the throats of his tenants in revenge for not appreciating his work; a Jerry Herman version, as a splashy star vehicle; an Andrew Lloyd Webber version, a rock musical with themes borrowed from Puccini; and a Kander & Ebb version, set in a speakeasy in Chicago. This comic valentine to musical theatre was the longest running show in the York Theatre Company's 35-year history before moving to Off-Broadway.TOp of PageJuly 9, 2007 - The Annual Meeting of TownsSquare Players, Inc. was held on June 20, 2007, at

TOp of PageAs appeared in the March 5, 2003 edition of the Woodstock Independent: Local treasuresTo the editor: Sometimes it is good to be reminded of something many of us already know - TownSquare Players and the Woodstock Musical Theatre Company are outstanding local treasures. I was able to see the last two productions at the Woodstock Opera House, "Foreigner," - presented by the TownSquare Players; and "Moon Over Buffalo," presented by the Woodstock Musical Theatre Company. Both were very well done and highly entertaining. The two production companies are a credit to their elegant venue, the Opera House. It was gratifying to hear the comment of a woman from Batavia seated near me, "I come to the plays in Woodstock because it is easier than going to Chicago." Margaret Phillips Steinam
